Daal Chawal with Kurkuri Bhindi

We decided to add a touch of fusion to our classic dal Chawal recipe. The pull up presentation and kurkuri bhindi just upgrades the dish.

Ingredients:

Moong Masoor Daal:

  • Masoor daal (Split orange lentil) ½ Cup (soaked for 1 hour)
  • Moong daal (Split yellow lentil) ½ Cup (soaked for 1 hour)
  • Haldi powder (Turmeric powder) 1 & ½ tsp
  • Water 3-4 Cups
  • Namak (Salt) 1 & ½ tsp or to taste
  • Water hot 3 Cups

Prepare Tadka:

  • Cooking oil ¼ Cup
  • Pyaz (Onion) chopped 1 small
  • Lehsan (Garlic) sliced 4-5 cloves
  • Zeera (Cumin seeds) 1 tsp
  • Sabut lal mirch (Button red chillies) 4-5
  • Kary patta (Curry leaves) 10-12

Achari Kurkuri Bhindi:

  • Bhindi (Okra) ½ kg deseeded &cut in julienne
  • Namak (Salt) ½ tsp or to taste
  • Lal mirch powder (Red chilli powder) 1 & ½ tsp or to taste
  • Haldi powder (Turmeric powder) 1 tsp
  • Zeera powder (Cumin powder) 1 & ½ tsp
  • Saunf (Fennel seeds) crushed 1 tsp
  • Lal mirch (Red chilli) crushed 1 & ½ tsp
  • Chaat masala 1 tsp
  • Sabut dhania (Coriander seeds) crushed ½ tbs
  • Kalonji (Nigella seeds) crushed 1 tsp
  • Lemon juice 2 tbs
  • Baisan (Gram flour) 3 & ½ tbs
  • Chawal ka atta (Rice flour) 1 tbs
  • Cooking oil for frying

Directions:

Moong Masoor Daal:

In a pot,add split red lentil,split yellow lentil,turmeric powder,water,mix well & bring it to boil,cover & cook on medium flame until tender (18-20 minutes) then mash well with the help of wooden masher.

Add salt and mix well.

Add hot water,mix well & bring it to boil.

Prepare Tadka:

In a frying pan,add cooking oil,onion,garlic,mix well & fry until light golden.

Add cumin seeds,button red chillies,curry leaves & mix well.

Now add prepared tadka in daal & mix well.

Achari Kurkuri Bhindi:

In a bowl,add okra,salt,red chilli powder,turmeric powder,cumin powder,fennel seeds,red chilli crushed,chaat masala,coriander seeds,nigella seeds,lemon juice & mix well.

Add gram flour,rice flour & mix well.

In a wok,heat cooking oil and fry okra on medium flame until golden brown & crispy.

Serve moong masoor daal with achari kurkuri bhindi,rice,salad & pickle!
